Chia

Chia is native to South-Western America where it was cultivated by the Aztec for centuries. It is grown for its’ seed, a ‘Nature’s Super Food’ that is extremely rich in omega-3 fatty acids amongst many other health benefits. Very drought resistant and easy to grow.

SOWING DIRECTIONS

When
Summer to Autumn.
Where
In seed trays or directly into garden beds. Prefers a sunny, sheltered position.
How Sow
Sow seeds 6mm (¼in) deep. Firm down and keep moist.
Care
Transplant to final position when approximately 7cm (3in) high, with 60cm (24in) between plants and rows. Keep it moist. Harvest: 16-20 weeks from sowing. For a continuous crop, pick sprouts from the bottom up as they ripen.

Chia & Goji Berry Bircher Muesli

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp Chia seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • 1 Tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Goji berries
  • 1 Tbsp cranberries
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 cup rice milk
  • 2 Tbsp desiccated coconut
  • 2 Tbsp slivered almonds
  • Organic honey
  • 2 Tbsp natural yoghurt
  • Fresh fruit to sprinkle on top

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry muesli ingredients.
  2. Grate apple into your dish and add all muesli ingredients.
  3. Cover with rice milk. Best left over night and then ready to serve with your chosen fruit.
