Stevia has been used for over 1,500 years by the peoples of South America to sweeten teas and medicines, and as a sweet treat. It has recently become popular worldwide as a near-zero calorie alternative to sugar. Use fresh or dried in drinks, foods and baking.

Sow Spring to Summer, all year round in warm regions
Where
Thrives in a sunny sheltered position and well-drained soil
How Sow
5mm (¼in) deep in seed trays or pots, or directly in the garden after danger of frost has passed. Seedlings emerge 10-14 days
Care
Transplant when large enough to handle, spacing plants 20cm (8in) apart. Keep moist. Pinch out the main growing tip to encourage side shoots and bushier plants.

Herbal lemon ice tea with Stevia

Ingredients

- Rind from 1 lemon   
- 2 cups bottled water   
- 3 teaspoons mint leaves, torn   
- 1 teaspoon fresh stevia leaves, torn

Instructions

1. Heat water in saucepan on highest setting until you reach the boiling point
2. Turn down to a simmer and add lemon rind, mint leaves and stevia
3. Cover pan and let steep for about 10 minutes.
4. Strain tea and let cool completely. Add ice cubes and serve
